Bienvenue

Domaine de Cournet-Haut, set in the picturesque Dordogne Valley, is a 17th century lodge set on 13 acres of beautiful gardens, lush lawns and bright mature forest. The domain was charmingly restored over 30 years ago by Hélène and Emmanuel Pichon-Varin into a self-catering holiday residence, consisting of 2 traditional stone houses and 6 woodland houses.

Seminar / Function room

We have just finished restoring the seminar / function room. It is now available to book all year round thanks to the new wood burning stove. And with its new bright open interior it is perfect for functions for up to 20 people.


New bikes

We have recently purchased a large range of new bikes, and also a number of child carrier seats. A great way to explore the peaceful countryside with all the family.

On the Domaine

Are the houses independent from one another ?

Yes, we always considered this as an essential element for a successful holiday. Therefore, the 9 houses are spread out over 13 acres of forest and gardens. The houses are well spaced apart without any vis-à-vis to preserve everyone's intimacy.

How far is the furthest chalet from the pool ?

The furthest chalet ("Le Saule") is 120m from the pool and can be accessed via a peaceful forest track.

Can one cycle on the Domain ?

Unfortunately not, because the Domain is set on a hillside with steep slopes and it would be dangerous to cycle on them. However, you are free to borrow the bikes any time you want to cycle on the roads and we can recommend numerous nice trips in the area.

In the house

Is there an ironing board in the house ?

Yes, each house is equipped with an ironing board and an iron.

Is there a hair dryer in the house ?

Yes, each house is equipped with a hair dryer.

Is there a TV in the house ?

  1. The stone houses (Forge, Bergerie, Tour) are fitted with a TV set, connected to satellite TV (with a limited number of English channels: BBC news, Sky News etc.). There is also a DVD player in each house.
  2. The chalets are fitted with a TV set but do not receive any channels. There is also a DVD player in each chalet.
  3. The communal room is fitted with a big TV screen, connected to satellite TV and with a DVD player.
  4. There is a DVD library at reception; you can borrow DVDs from it, free of charge.
Pets

Are pets allowed in Cournet-Haut ?

We have pets ourselves and would be very happy to welcome yours; as long as they are clean, well-behaved and not aggressive (there are a lot of children on the Domain).
Unlike many holiday resorts, we won't charge you extra for bringing your pet; we will simply ask you to ensure it respects the house and the Domain.

In the nearby area

Is there a village near Cournet-Haut ?

The small village of Saint Pompon is 900m far from Cournet-Haut. Besides its charm, it offers all the basics you will need for your shopping: a bakery, a butcher's, a small grocery shop, a chemist, 2 cafés, post office/tourist information and a petrol station. In the village and nearby, there are a number of restaurants.
There is a market in the village every Friday morning and from June to September, the Saturday gourmet night markets always encounter a great success.

What can one see and do in the area ?

Where to start? There is so much to do nearby!

  1. The Dordogne is a very rich area, culturally and historically speaking. You will be able to discover our numerous medieval villages: Sarlat (25 min), Domme, Beynac, La Roque-Gageac, Monpazier (20 min) etc.
  2. Our castles are many and breathtaking: Beynac, Castelnaud, Les Milandes (20 min) etc.
  3. There are numerous caves, with paintings and concretions.
  4. Nature lovers should be well impressed by the gardens of Marqueyssac, Eyrignac, Carsac, Cadiot etc.
  5. Festivals, street shows and concerts are everywhere during the high season.
  6. Artists and craftspeople are very gifted as you will discover.
  7. For children and adults, there are numerous outdoor and indoor activities: canoeing on the Dordogne and Vezère rivers, horse riding, rock-climbing, hot air ballooning, aquariums, museums etc.
  8. And then, of course, you will discover our food. In restaurant, "auberges", or farms, you will taste products you never tasted before…

Of course, we will be on site in Cournet-Haut to guide you and help you make your choices!

Services free of charge on site

Is there a DVD library in Cournet-Haut ?

Yes there is DVD library at reception, you can borrow from it anytime and it is free of charge. All the houses are fitted with a TV set and DVD player.

Is there a WIFI cover in Cournet-Haut? Is there internet access ?

Part of the Domain is covered by WIFI (Forge, Bergerie, Tour, Reception, pool. The WIFI also covers the chalets Chataîgnier and Chêne though not very regularly).
There is an internet point at reception, with a video camera for Skype calls.
These services are free of charge.

Is it possible to borrow board games and books on site ?

Yes, there are French and English board games et reception and a French, English and Dutch library from which to borrow books from.

What activities are free of charge on the Domain ?

On the Domain you will be able to use:

  1. The pool (14m/6m) lit at night and heated from the 15th of May to the 15th of September (depending on weather conditions). It is fitted with an infrared alarm system to protect the youngest.
  2. The tennis court, lit up at night. Rackets and balls can be borrowed at reception.
  3. The bicycles, in different sizes, with helmets, baby seats and bike locks.
  4. The badminton court (rackets and shuttlecocks can be borrowed at reception).
  5. The Pétanque court – boules are available at reception.
  6. the trampoline.
  7. the table tennis tables – the rackets and balls are NOT available.
  8. the swings, slide, sandpit
  9. the board games, books and DVDs.

What activities are charged extra ?

Only the pottery classes are extra. They are given by Marie Pichon-Varin, a fully qualified and full time potter-ceramist. A session costs 15€, lasts 1hour30 and includes all the necessary gear as well as the clay.

Optional services

Is it possible to rent bed linen and towels on site or do we need to bring them ?

The choice is yours: you can bring your own or you can rent part of or all of it. The rates are as follows:

  1. Inclusive hire of linen including : 2 sheets, pillow case, 1 bath mat, 1 bath towel, 1 hand towel, 1 flannel and 3 tea towels : 16 euros per person.
  2. Hire of linen only including: pair of sheets and pillow case: 13 euros per package.
  3. Hire of towels only including: 1 bath mat, 1 bath towel, 1 hand towel and 1 flannel: 13 euros per package.

Is there a laundry in Cournet-Haut ?

Yes, there is a communal laundry with 2 washing machines and 1 tumble dryer. The price is 3€ per washing and per drying. You also have a clothes line behind each chalet and clothes horses are available in the laundry.
Each house is equipped with an iron and ironing board.

Is it possible to organise some babysitting ?

Yes, we can organise it for you without any problem, the price is 9€/hour.

Do we have to clean the house at the end of our stay or can we pay for it ?

The choice is yours: either you can do it yourself and we lend you the necessary gear, or you would like to have it done and the prices are as follows: 35 euros per house of 4 people, 40 euros per house of 5 or 6 people and €60 for La Tour.

Could we ask for our house to be cleaned every day ?

Of course, we can organise this service for you, the prices are the following: 4 people houses: 20 €/day, 5 or 6 people houses : 30 €/day, Tour : 40 €/day.

What activities are charged extra on the Domain ?

Weekend and short stays

Is it possible to come and stay for a weekend or a few days ?

Seminars

Is it possible to hold seminars in Cournet-Haut ?

We have a seminar room with a capacity for 20 people. It was restored in 2010 and offers tables and chairs, a big TV screen, a big screen with an overhead projector, WIFI, a flipchart and a wood stove for the cooler season. There is no communal kitchen but our houses and chalets are individually equipped. If the participants wish to eat together, we can organise something with nearby restaurants or contact caterers.
